Phoebe and Bobby Tudor received a Good Brick for the renovation of and sympathetic additions to their National Register-listed house in the Broadacres Historic District. Architects Briscoe and Dixon designed the gracious home in 1925 for Walter Walne, an attorney with Baker Botts. The renovation and expansion, by Curtis & Windham, was designed to enhance the spirit and craftsmanship of the historic house. The challenges included creating a blend of 10 different types of brick to seamlessly attach a new kitchen wing to the original house, but the most ambitious part of the project involved creating new outbuildings that don’t look like modern additions. The gardens, created in the 1920s by noted landscape architects Fleming and Sheppard, were also restored, rounding out an exceptional preservation project.
