Alfred C. Finn designed the Ezekiel W. Cullen Building as the centerpiece of Hare & Hare’s 1937 master plan for the University of Houston campus. The building features a tall central block flanked by low wings with a fan-shaped auditorium projecting from its east side. Its façade of shell limestone with relief sculpture and decorative cast aluminum makes a substantial public statement on one of Houston’s most significant Art Deco landmarks. Though some alterations have been made, the University of Houston is to be commended for its half-century of stewardship of this significant building.
