The former Texas Staple Company warehouse isn’t a traditional preservation project. The building was designated a City of Houston landmark for its mid-century industrial architecture and for its association with legendary Houston banker and businessman Ben Love, who constructed the building in 1954 to house his wrapping paper company. Former Good Brick Award winners Ray + Hollington Architects and Nonya Grenader designed a straightforward renovation using sustainable materials appropriate to the building’s time period. Maintaining existing fixtures and steel-framed windows created the desired “hard loft” look the developers desired, while simple power washing and scrubbing removed paint to expose clay blocks and concrete columns and floors.
