Though it was completed in 1983, Four Allen Center has already earned a lasting place in Houston history as the Enron Building. Nevertheless, the building is as well-known for its architecture as for its former tenant: Even after 25 years, the 50-story skyscaper retains its freshness and surface beauty. Architects Lloyd Jones Brewer gave the sleek, steel-framed landmark alternating banks of silver glass and white aluminum spandrels topped by a neon halo that accents the building’s smooth curves. In 2002, Cesar Pelli & Associates designed an adjacent tower clearly inspired by the original — and in this case, imitation is sincerely flattery.
